Currently, Toronto ground water contains manganese levels in the 150 - 200 parts per billion (ppb) range. These new regulations will enforce that waste water going into municipal water treatment plants cannot have manganese present above 50 ppb. Consequently, ground water removed from construction sites during de-watering for foundation construction must be treated to reduce the manganese levels to below 50 ppb before the water can be sent to municipal sanitary or storm drains. The client installed an advanced oxidation process (AOP) to treat the spent laundry water, but still had no way of controlling TDS at laundering temperatures.
